About the Expo
The Expo is a chance for students to explore an area of science or engineering of your choice or to become an inventor and demonstrate what you learn at an exposition at Sycamore Creek Elementary on January 18, 2020.
You will register to participate in the Expo by completing a registration form on the sign-up page.
The deadline to register is January 3, 2020.
After you register you will begin your exploration using the scientific method, engineering design process to produce a demonstration of an exciting topic that interests you or by creating a new invention. Remember to have fun while you are exploring and learning along your journey.
You and your team (if you choose to have a team) will need to purchase a Science Fair display board. Most office supply and craft stores sell them. Each exhibitor will use the board to show their work. Projects will be set up starting at 9:30am on Saturday morning and evaluations will be held from 10-12 . Projects MUST be taken home when the Expo ends at 12::00pm.
During the Expo please plan on staying with your display for about an hour so that visitors may ask you questions and admire your hard work! Be sure to wait until your evaluator visits with you. After that you may tour the other exhibits.
Each participant will receive a certificate for participation.

There will be a number of adult scientists from around the Triangle at the Expo who will be speaking to you about your exhibit. All scientists will be signed up to meet with an evaluator.

Presentation Options
- Use the scientific method to investigate the topic of your choice
- Demonstrate the principles behind your investigation
- Invent something that solves a problem or a challenge
- Collect, categorize and organize a collection of objects (this option is for our K-2 scientists only)
You may NOT do the following
- Use live animals in your exhibit
- Use dead animals in your exhibit
- Use an open flame in your exhibit
- Invent or demonstrate with a weapon of any kind
- Exhibit anything that could harm you, another visitor or school property
- Exhibit anything that leaks onto the school floor
- Exhibit a volcano erupting at the expo
Guidelines
Your exhibit should
- Fit into the confines of the tri-fold display board
- Quickly convey what you investigated and discovered, demonstrated or invented
- Be attractive and pleasing to the audience, well organized
